Overview

As the Design Director for Oracle, I led a holistic mobile-first redesign of Oracle.com, a massive web app with millions of users, tens of thousands of pages, 4,000+ products, and dozens of SaaS integrations. This digital transformation resulted in a responsive experience that increased mobile engagement by over 300%. I also established Oracle's first design system, achieved WCAG 2.1 accessibility compliance for the site, and increased design team productivity by 2x.

Challenge

Oracle.com had expanded rapidly over the previous decade, outgrowing its information architecture, navigation, and usability, while lacking a critically needed mobile-friendly design.

Approach

I led a team of 15 designers to reimagine the entire experience. We took a phased approach, starting with the redesign of the popular HCM product line and gradually expanding to the rest of the site. We created a new IA and navigation to organize Oracle’s 4,000+ products, developed a modern and high-performing homepage, overhauled site search, expanded account functionality and localization, introduced deep personalization, and built Oracle’s first-ever design system.

Our process included:

  • User research in partnership with the UXR team, utilizing hundreds of surveys and moderated interviews
  • Quantitative analysis with the Analytics team for performance benchmarking before and after changes
  • Wireframes and prototypes for rapid design iteration
  • Content collaboration with stakeholders across product and marketing
  • Usability testing both remotely and in person at Oracle’s OpenWorld conferences

Results

This digital transformation delivered a responsive, modernized site, enhanced usability, and notably increased mobile engagement by over 300%.

It also resulted in the creation of Oracle's first design system, which met WCAG 2.1 accessibility guidelines, and increased the output of the design team by 4x.
